Advanced Astronomy @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
Advanced Astronomy Camp is an opportunity for middle school students to participate in astronomy through hands-on activities, using computers for astronomy, and even have the opportunity to operate the planetarium. Subjects covered will include: Planets; night sky and constellations; spectroscopy, EM spectrum, and radio sky; safe telescopic solar observations; and the use of scientific method in astronomy. Students will see a different planetarium program every day.

Aero-Girls @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
Aero-Girls! Camp is similar to Aeronautics Camp, but just for girls! This Aeronautics camp is the first step as you study and practice flying in our near earth environment. It is designed to integrate the physics and mathematics of planning and piloting a flight. Participants will also explore simple “rocket science” that emphasizes those same aeronautical principles using physics and math. Participants will design, plan and conduct a typical flight between airports in Kentucky, using MicroSoft Flight Simulator system.

Are you shooting for a trip to the Moon, or even Mars? This Aeronautics camp is the first step as you study and practice flying in our near earth environment. It is designed to integrate the physics and mathematics of planning and piloting a flight. Participants will design, plan and conduct a typical (simulated) flight on a Cessna 182 between airports in Kentucky, using MicroSoft Flight Simulator system.

As the home of the first man on the moon and the inventors of the airplane, Ohio is a great place to learn about space and flight. Participate in an engineering design challenge developed by NASA. Study the mysteries of the sky and universe as we visit the Cincinnati Observatory and discover the wonder of flight when we travel to the National Museum of the US Air Force.

Astronomy camp at NKU introduces middle school students to the basic aspects of astronomy through use of planetarium shows, star shows, telescope observations (daytime and nighttime), hands-on activities including spectroscopes and telescopes, and hands on control of the planetarium via Kinect. Topics will include the size and structure of the Solar System, meteorites, auroras, sunspots, spectra and the information spectra give us, what telescopes are like and how to use them, basic ideas of the universe beyond (stars, nebulae, galaxies, the Big Bang).

The Explore STEM! (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Camp is five days of challenging and diverse experiences across a number of disciplines. Participants will conduct experiments, learn technologies, and utilize equipment frequently reserved for upper-division science majors. Mathematics is integrated as part of the scientific study, through modeling or data analysis. Past camps have included geology, entomology, physics, environmental science, chemistry, microbiology, astronomy, biotechnology, computer science, entomology, genetics and more.

Mission to Mars @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
The new Mission to Mars Camp gives experienced elementary students (alumni from Rock-it with Rockets AND Mission to the Moon Camps or current enrollees in Mission to the Moon in the a.m. session) entering grades 3-5 in the fall of 2016 a chance to complete team challenges. Teams will work with an mBot, an all-in-one solution that provides experience with programming, electronics, and robotics. Teams will compete in Drag Race to Mars to design a landing system to ensure a safe landing.

Mission to the Moon @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
Mission to the Moon Camp gives elementary students who have completed Rock-it with Rockets Camp!! and are entering grades 3-5 in the fall of 2016 a chance to experience science and engineering while testing, designing, and launching rockets as well as complete an engineering design challenge around creating a moon buggy using Lego. Campers will explore data collection and analysis, the engineering design process using criteria and constraints, as well as scientific ideas around forces and motion.

Mobile Game App Development @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
Students in the Mobile Game App Development Camp will learn basic principles of mobile programming/visual programming and how to design and implement mobile apps with App Inventor. Specific topics include introduction to mobile game app development and App Inventor, programming fundamentals, blocks, components, sensors, and mobile robotics (building a mobile app to control a LEGO robot).

Rock-it with Rockets Camp!! will give elementary students entering into grades 3-5 in the fall of 2015 a chance to experience science and engineering while testing, designing, and launching rockets. Campers will be given the opportunity to explore different types of rockets including straw rockets, Alka-Seltzer rockets, balloon rockets, and stomp rockets while designing their own model rocket that will be launched on the last day of camp.

STEM Girls: Transforming the World @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
STEM Girls: Transforming the World is a new camp just for young women who want to know how they might help change the world by using science, technology, engineering and mathematics! Students in this camp will learn about real world issues—both local and global—and how STEM disciplines can help us understand and address these issues. Participants will get to talk with experts on matters like food security, water quality, and bridge safety, and get to come up with their own ways to tackle these issues!

The Art of Nature Exploration @ Northern Kentucky Univ. (CINSAM)
Participants will jump into action as we explore the natural history and diversity of nature, and record the observations made in the field both with art and writing. This week-long camp will engage middle school students in field studies ranging from incredible insects, to amazing amphibians, to fantastic fish and more. These explorers will learn the biology of many different animal groups, see them, catch them, draw and write about them.

Students in What Can YOU Engineer Camp will explore computer modeling, rapid prototyping, robotic construction, CNC plasma cutting, plant tours, and other exciting real-world engineering problems. They will team up with experienced engineers during two days at local companies to learn about these local engineering firms and explore how they approach and solve different engineering problems. They will also utilize the NKU engineering technology facilities to interact with faculty and engineering/technology students.
